Charlotte Mason Style Curriculum Picks 2025-2026

For the upcoming school year, I will have a 7 year old, a 4.5 year old, and a 2 year old. Here are the curriculum picks that I will be doing with mostly my 7 year old, and a tag-a-long 4 year old!

We completed Year 1 this summer and really enjoyed it! The printable schedule made it really easy to keep track of readings. We didn't do it all as planned on the schedule but plan to follow it more closely this coming year. Ambleside Online is a free Charlotte Mason curriculum that uses living books to teach history, science, Bible, literature, poetry, art, and more. I purchased many books used, read some online, and borrowed a few from our library. See a sample schedule below for Year 2 Term 1!

Simply Charlotte Mason Outdoor Secrets - A Living Science Handbook for early years - grade 2. We'll work through 1 or 2 lessons per week. This curriculum is based on a chapter book and picture books - my favorite! This past year we completed their Learning about Birds with Thornton Burgess curriculum and really enjoyed it. I would take all three kids on a short walk to a grassy area once or twice per week. Sometimes with a little snack or picnic! My oldest was expected to sit or play near me to listen while I read and I let the younger two play farther away. My middle child enjoyed sitting and listening for some but not all. Then later at home, we would watch a Youtube video about the birds we read about and color a picture of them in the companion coloring book.

My plan was to skip Ambleside Online History and just do Beautiful Feet Books, but we've enjoyed the history reads in Year 1 so I plan to be ambitious and do both. Fortunately, the Early American History curriculum can be completed slowly over 2 years with 1 lesson per week. Beautiful Feet Books offers many wonderful literature-based curricula options.

Math with Confidence - We're about halfway through the first grade math curriculum, so not following the traditional school year schedule at all! We'll continue working through it this upcoming school year. We've dabbled some with Life of Fred and I'll have to keep thinking about what we'll do when we finish this book! We do like it and loved the Kindergarten book too.

For reading, we've been slowly working through Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and using Explode the Code. We finished book 1 and I thought my 6-year old needed some more practice so we got book 1 1/2 which offers reinforcement for book 1. I'm also going through the preschool books with my 4-year old when he wants to participate. He completed book A and is working on book B.

My four year old tags along for much of our days and readings. I do plan on using my Sweet and Simple Year in Preschool with him for his special school time (short and sweet :)
